Objective:
Kennel Strandly strive to breed typical aussies
with a strong mental balance in a healthy
and well proportioned body.
By a typical aussie I mean according to the breed standard.
By a strong mental balance I mean that the mind of the dog makes it able to cooporate and adjuste to the inviroment it lives in. It also means that the dog needs to have the well known "willing to please" attitude. The dogs principal duty is to be well functioned in the family.
By a healthy dog I mean a dog free of inherited diseases. Unfortunately there are som inherited diseases (like Hip Dysplasia, catarat and epilepsy). But with a mind set on the issue and a carefully planned breeding program the risks of inherited diseases can be reduced.
By a well proportioned body I mean, that to be able to have a long and healthy life the dog need to have the well proportioned body. An aussie will live for 10-12 years and they uses their body a lot so the structure is an important paramenter for a healthy dog. The well proportioned body is described in the breed standard. The structure is essential to a typical aussie!
You can find the breed standard here.

Breeding plans and puppies
Before a dog can enter my breeding program, he or she needs to prove a corporative and willing to please attitude. It is important to me that my dogs are good behaviourists. Besides the mental soundness, my dogs are also X-rayed (for Hip Dysplasia), and their eyes are checked for inherited deceases.
When I consider a breeding, I look for a breeding that I believe will improve my breeding program. Before the decision is made, I screen both pedigrees for weakness. I do my very best to minimize the risk for inherited diseases of any kind. There are so many pieces that need to fit together before a breeding actually can take place. It takes a lot of time, but I enjoy every minute of it!
When the breeding has taken place, the bitch goes through some hormonal changes. The first weeks of her pregnancy are very important to the puppies, I believe that it is very important, for her to be in total balance through this period. Through her pregnancy she will get a good and well balanced food, and this is adjusted to the state of her pregnancy. She will get the excercise need and adjust to her state of pregnancy. When the birth is close, I prepare a special puppy-room for her and her babies to come, and the rest of the dogs in the house are no longer allowed to be in that room. Her and I are preparing for the birth to come.
When the puppies are born, I want the environments to be calm with just a minimum of stress, for the mother and her babies. So there are no outside visitors to the babies before they are 3 weeks old. But they need to be prepared for the outside world, so I start almost immediately to socialize them. In the beginning it is just little things, and as they grow I try to challenges them, according to their age and their personality.
This socialization needs to be continued by the puppy buyer, and actually I believe that it has to go on for the rest of its life. The puppy period being the most important time for its socializing though.

Expectations........
When bying a puppy from Kennel Strandly, you can expect:
- Your puppy will be well socialized to people and inviroment. He or she has lived with our family (both human and dogs), and been a part of our every day life for the first month of his or hers life. The challenges I give the puppies are adjusted to the age of the puppies and their personality.
- A pedigree from the Danish Kennel Club (DKK), together with a puppy book with information on the puppy, his parents and sisters and brothers - and some pictures too of course.
- A vet has examined the puppy, and he has got his first vaccination. I do this because then you can enter a puppy class when ever he is ready.
- The puppy has had his eyes checked for the first time. This I do to be sure there is no inherited eye diseases that can be seen at this time.
- The puppy has been examined by a chiropractor, to cover possible issues due to the birth.
Puppies at Kennel Strandly are always well planned. I do not have puppies every spring, and I do not have puppies necessary every year. I will have puppies when the right breeding is a possibility.
I try very hard to analyze the personality of every puppy, and to learn about their strengh and weakness. I spend a lot of time doing this through the time they live with me. I do this to be able to place the right puppy with the right family.
To have a fair chance to do the right "match", I need to know a little about the life you are offering the puppy, your every day life and what you are expecting the puppy to be.
As a puppybuyer you may have preferences for colour, tail and/or sex, and that is fine if you are ready to wait for the right puppy to show up. I do reserve the right to place the puppies finally, and my biggest concern is that the mental balance between the puppy and its new family - disregard the sex, colour ect.
Kennel Strandly expectations on you:
- That you will check the eyes once more before the puppy is 4 years old. And if the bitch or male is going to be bred, the eyes also have to be checked before a breeding has taken place.
- That you as a minimum will enter a puppy class.
- That the puppy will be handled with respect and in a way that is fair to the dog. To be able to do so, you need to learn a little about how a dogs mind works, and how a dog communicate. When doing so you will be able to support your dog when needed, and you will be able to handle it in a right manner.
That you will X-ray your dog/bitch. And if the bitch or male is going to be bred, they also have to be x-rayed, and the result has to be okay, before he or she can be bred. The time for X-ray will appear in the puppy contract.
- That you will visit Kennel Strandly a least two times, before the dog are 3 years old.
The puppies are ready to leave Kennel Strandly when they are 8-9 weeks old.
I offer puppy classes, and I also teach in dog behavior. And of course I am available with help in any way, at any time in the whole lifetime of the dog. Kennel Strandly will take any dog back, at any time, for any reason!
Kennel Strandly does not request deposits, but we do prioritize puppy buyers who have chosen to pay deposit. The deposit is DKK 1.000 (€ 250). The deposit will be deducted to total price. Contact me for further information.
